Experience to Draw On is an official gift
designed for Croatia’s presidency of the
European Union in the first half of 2020.
This pencil was designed as a homage to
the first historical mechanical pencil that
was patented by Eduard Slavoljub Penkala
115 years ago, whose life path and an exceptional European spirit is an inspiration for new creations to this day.

The design of the new pen relies on the
famous design with a simple mechanism
consisting of a tube for the mine (graphite or
pigmented stick) 3 mm in diameter, springs,
dissolving tip and metal mask. The mask is
made of anodized aluminum painted with
ecological color in red. The mine is made of
graphite or pigmented powder red or blue
(the original Penkala pencil had was first a
black mine, but soon devised a version with
red and blue bookbinding mine, and other
colors used by artists).

The pencil is shaped so that its top and
bottom bases differ in shape. While at the
base of the pencils body of the pen shape
starts from a square section, its four edges
gradually merge into a perfect circle at the
very tip of the pen.
