The System,
modular furniture
The furniture system consists of just a few simple parts. These are: metal pipes (or timber rods), timber boards, metal joints and fabric sheets if needed. Each comes in up
to four universal sizes. The goal is to allow as many variations as possible, so the measurements of each part are made to fit together in any orientation. The key heights for sitting (chair/table) were taken as a priority and as a starting point to dictate
other measures.
There are two metal joints that interlock with the pipes in a principle of hole and lock, one stopper, and one cap. The pipes or rods should be perforated in grids to allow different connections.
This is an open source design that invites the user to design it, build it, change it, adapt it or add something unique to it. For example, the holes in the pipes can be used in other ways that the existing design doesn’t suggest, such us pulling rope through to create a clothes dryer or a chair back support.
The variations are countless. It is not only affordable, it is also ecologic. It makes every part important, useful and reusable. It extends the life cycle of every single part and it prevents buying pieces that are not needed.
